Character Quality: Character-the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Hopefully, we have been building your child’s character during these priceless formative years. If there is one thing I hope they will all remember, it’s that their 4K teachers loved them and shared God’s love!
LANGUAGE:
● We were tested on writing both upper and lower case letters from recall.
MATH:
● We were tested on writing numbers to 20 from recall.
● We used different manipulatives to complete the pattern for May-a, a, a, b, b, b.
● We worked on number combinations to “10.”
ART:
SCIENCE:
● We studied the Foss units about “fabric” and “wood.” We checked each for differences in absorbency, thickness, density and coarseness. We found examples of fabric and wood in the classroom. We sanded the wooden blocks for the initial string art project. We checked for stains and learned what washes out and what will not. We learned how to investigate and apply science to everyday items.
Coming Up next week: Today is Monday-study of the days of the week.
Please Mark your Calendar
Wednesday, May 24th: End of the Year Party—Splash Pad at Citizen’s Park. We will depart Mead Hall at 10:00 a.m. and return by noon. I will send a detailed letter on Monday.

Character Quality: Faith is one of the three theological virtues. (The other two are hope and love.) The theological virtues are extended to us by the grace of God, and they draw us back to God. Our faith in Christ gives us hope and allows us to love one another as Christ loves us.
LANGUAGE:
● We learned the sight word “look” and “are.” Besides rainbow writing, we colored a book entitled, Look , and another book entitled, Where Are We Now?
● As we learn about our five senses, we are focusing on a different sense each day. We write a sentence, build a sentence and illustrate the sentence for a book we are making entitled, Our Five Senses.
● We are learning a poem about our 5 senses and a page for our poetry book.
MATH:
● We worked on several ways to write numbers “7” and “8.”
● New pattern for May—a, a, a, b, b, b.
● We wrote numbers to 20 and practiced them on 10 frames.
ART:
SCIENCE:
● We began a Foss unit about “paper.” We talked about where paper comes from. We examined several kinds of paper to check their texture, absorbency, and how easy or difficult it was to write on each. We took toilet paper, put it in a bottle of water, let it disintegrate, shook it up, poured it on a screen, then finally squeezed the water out to let it dry. Our homemade paper will be ready to paint next week. We will lastly weave paper on Monday to finish this unit up.
● My Plant Lap book turned out great! We hope you enjoyed seeing all we learned about plants: what they need to grow, pollination, photosynthesis, parts of a flower, the bean plant life cycle and the cute picture of your child.

He drank up all the water and gobbled up the soap,
And when he tried to talk there was a bubble in his throat.
- We made a fish hand print on top of water colored fish bowls for our ABC Books.
- I’m sure you have seen all the ways we practice learning to write and know our letters. Please be sure that your child has learned to recognize each new letter as we go!
- After reading and learning to sing Five Green and Speckled Frogs, we made a paper towel holder log and speckled our frogs with brown paint. Then we acted out the song using our frogs on the logs.
- We are working on what the teacher needs to know and what is really none of our business. A Bad Taste of Tattletale was the perfect book to illustrate when danger needs to be reported and how we can problem solve ourselves. We also read Interrupting Chicken which helped us see the importance of not interrupting!
- We added several new math counting, sorting and patterning activity centers.
- We learned how to make the #3 and wrote All About the #3 in our math journals.
ART:
- We used Listening Art Projects to make our frog hats and the frogs we used on our poem page.
- We drew things that are “purple” in our journals.
- We watched on you tube the life cycle of a frog and then colored life cycle pictures and put them on our frog hats.
- Coming Up this week: Letter “E, e” elephants, #4 and sight word, “brown.”
